The Ultimate Guide to Toronto’s Best Textured Hair Stylists

Welcome to my very first blog post!

If you’ve ever struggled to find a stylist who really gets your natural curls, coils, or kinks—you’re not alone. For so many of us, walking into a salon can feel like a gamble. Will they understand your texture? Will they handle your natural hair with care? Will you leave feeling like your best self?

That’s why I put together this list. These stylists aren’t just good, they’re the best of the best—curl specialists who know the science, artistry, and patience it takes to care for textured hair. Some I’ve visited personally, others came highly recommended by trusted friends and curlies in the community.

From Oshawa to Mississauga, Scarborough to downtown Toronto—whether you’re looking for a silk press, a curly cut, scalp therapy, or bold colour, this list has you covered. Each stylist brings their own flavour, specialties, and vibe, so dive in and find your next curl saviour.

East

  • CurlyLife: I first met owner Noelle at Hairdome before she ventured out on her own to open CurlyLife in Oshawa. She offers great product knowledge and introduced me to my favourite detangling brush!
  • Shine Curl Studio: New to the Oshawa scene in 2023 with an exciting new pricing option where you pick your price and pay what you think the service costs.
  • Curl Ambassadors: Located in Pickering and well known for their curly cuts. They’ve been going 16+ years and have multiple locations across the GTA.
  • Cloud 9 Curls: Zermala is a colour and texture powerhouse. Scarborough natural hair girls love her. She’s known for styling influencer @JennJackson and many other curlies.
  • MooreThanHair: One of my favourites in Scarborough. She treated my hair with so much care. I was referred to her by a coworker who always had the best silk press. I believe she recently moved out of Toronto (so sad).
  • TrichoSpa by Earthtones: Fairly new to the Ajax scene, specializing in scalp care, thinning hair and hair loss.
  • Hairdome: A longtime curl studio in Pickering. I’ve been there several times, but the stylist I used is no longer there. They also offer men’s cuts and box braiding.

Downtown

  • The Curl Lounge: An amazing salon specializing in all curl types, with tons of experience with natural hair.
  • TKlovesHair aka Textured Hair EDU: TK is one of my absolute favorites! Not only does she understand textures and hair care extremely well, but she’s on a mission to bring textured hair education to stylists across Canada. She’s also a curly colour specialist!
  • Curl Rituals: An amazing team of hair health educators and multi-texture specialists ready to meet your curly hair needs.
  • The Curl Bar: Founded in 2021 and located downtown, specializing in all curl types.
  • Urban Curls: Located on the Danforth, they offer a holistic approach to curl care services and specialize in all textures, delivering customized services.

West

  • Take Khair Beauty Supply: Toronto’s first all-in-one full-service curly hair salon and beauty supply store! Founded by two sisters, they opened in 2023.
  • Hair by Reema Salon: If you’re in Mississauga, check her out for your curly hair and balayage needs!

Central/Uptown

  • Crown and Glory: On the scene since 2019, this one is for all the natural hair queens. I’ve never been, but I’m obsessed! The owner @the.Aisha.Experience is a true natural hair master and I love watching her serve up styles on IG.
  • SheBeen Hair: Home of Nakisha Straker, well-known hairstylist to Canadian E-talk host Tyrone Edwards, and other celebrities.
